At the North Carolina State capitol, finished in 1840, you can take a self guided tour of the beautifully restored building or take a guided tour with one of the tour guides.
Tours of the Executive Building are by reservation only. Self guided tours are Monday through Friday and the guided tours are Saturday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and on Sunday at 2 p.m.
I took the guided tour, and the guide was very helpful. The only problem was that it was by reservation only, and you have to call two weeks in advance.
